Members - Manage 2 Teams

Bucky O Hare (San) 10/11/2015 14:59:03 - edited
Hi All,

We are opening up the opportunity for MEMBERS to manage a 2nd team within the current game world. There is a few tricky little requirements unfortunately:

(1) Your 2 teams CANNOT be in the same region
(2) You need to sign up a 2nd account using your current username with a 2 on the end (i.e., Slammin2 or Slammin 2)
(3) You CANNOT trade between the two teams (not even loans)

*We'll cross the bridge if your two teams meet in a WES Cup game when/if we get to that problem ;-)

Ultimately this was something the community has been asking for and after much thought we'd like to open up that opportunity given we have a number of inactive teams available still. This way we can provide more value to our paying users (sorry non-paying folks, we love you to!) and help drive site activity and gradually keep acquiring and retaining brand new users in the meantime.

Longer term we may need to revoke this privilege, but we'll communicate that kind of change well in advance and with plenty of discussion but I wanted to put it out there right from the start.

Thanks,
Ben

Buzzing.

Love it.

I love this idea. Lots of us hardcore users spend lots of time on the site and one team just doesn't fill up all the demand for wes play.

The community will police to ensure nothing unwanted goes on.

Oh shit. I have totally fucked up :(

I thought it was for anyone.

Ben what do I do? I've made a whole lot of changes with Phoenix. Like a bull in a china shop. Didnt read the small print that this is only for members :(

thefox (Kit) 10/11/2015 16:05:41 mkeeney2
We need to be very careful in terms of trades going to number one teams. I know everybody loves trading with Houston but if people are trading your all-star players on both squads to the same seven teams that is going to unbalance the game.

Re: Members - Manage 2 Teams

The_Mayor (Liv) 10/11/2015 16:07:43 thefox (Kit)
Yep Fox. We need to be very careful with trading involving 2nd teams overall. People will easier use them as toys and don't maybe care if they make bad trades with them.

I feel like the point of this opportunity should be developing teams in need for a more competitive WES in the future, not to pick up teams in D1 and D2.

As such, I (Jesse) am managing Mecca in Africa D5. Signed up last week before Ben made the username rule, so take note folks!

I don't think my plan really involves trading much, more just setting a team right with youth signings and training for 1-3 seasons before jumping ship to another horribly inactive squad in need of repair for the eventual day when a new player takes over...

Re: Members - Manage 2 Teams

Pav (Hou) 10/11/2015 16:53:37 Homer Hemingway
I've requested Ben to remove trading ability for second teams altogether. I don't think its necessary and it creates a headache for everyone. Just live off FAs and train players. Not sure how possible this is on a technical level though.

Can we have friendlies activated please?

Re: Members - Manage 2 Teams

jreynolds 10/11/2015 17:28:40 Bashev2 (Bra)
That's another thing I was wondering about -- do we really have a right to a 2nd team with full friendly capabilities? Can't say I agree with it. We should have to earn credits through news stories or get friendlies from other members.

The problem with that I suppose is that only members would end up with friendlies and non-members would fall by the wayside.

Well I like this a lot sir! So much that I became a member. Now I shall have a good look around to see which team and indeed which region. Woohooooo

I too support the idea of removing the ability to trade with 2nd teams.

It is the perfect solution really. This way it gives members more to do while also increasing activity and competition, but doesn't open the door for potential trade control nightmare.

Thanks guys for the input, I will review the ability to just permanently block trading on the 2nd accounts.

Michael, don't worry about Phoenix we'll sort it out.

Apologies that this is members only, but we need to control the volume so we can police it effectively, maintain a good solid number of interesting teams for newbies etc etc and of course not to mention give our paying customers some additional benefits at this time.

ES is the region to be for second teams Walter.
ES1 was already hotting up with all the active teams there: Palermo, Milan, Kavala, Pireaus, Barcelona, Vigo, Patrai, and now Alex Butler, Oz, Di and Pav are also joining with a second team. It's gonna be highly competitive fun :-)

funny that you trade with Jesses 2 nd team then right? and right for the best 24 on that team.
this makes it hard for me to stay motivated as i am very worried about "friendly" trades between ones 1st team and another ones 2nd team.

Re: Members - Manage 2 Teams

Pav (Hou) 14/11/2015 11:13:14 vanimmer
Why was it a friendly trade? Jesse received bids from 9 different teams for his mid (including Leverkusen). He decided my bid was the most suitable for his team. That trade is perfectly balanced, imo.

Re: Members - Manage 2 Teams

vanimmer 14/11/2015 11:15:18 Pav (Hou)
of course it was

Re: Members - Manage 2 Teams

Looijen (Rot) 14/11/2015 12:21:37 vanimmer
It could also be an option to make the trade restriction valid for both teams once one of your teams has traded w a manager. Maybe harder to code though

Re: Members - Manage 2 Teams

daylami (Dou) 14/11/2015 18:43:31 Looijen (Rot)

who needs trading anyway - block it for 2nd teams and end of story

more of interest is the Friendly thing

NOW: Douala always tries to offer friendlies to anyone who aks for them on the boards and everyone is happy getting minutes into their younger players

THEN: having a 2nd team thats blocked for friendlies I like to think all Douala´s offers will go to Salerno

if all members act accordingly NO other team will ever get an offer

if you open friendlies for 2nd teams the offers will double for all non members

This is a strategic weapon for you Ben ;-)

Bashev (Ber) 14/11/2015 19:18:59 daylami (Dou)
I think we gonna have a lot of issues with the second teams. Less than a week and we have one release and sign between first and second team and now a trade with a second team although it was stated that no trades are allowed.

Re: Members - Manage 2 Teams

jreynolds 14/11/2015 19:22:39 daylami (Dou) - edited
I completely agree with removing trading for 2nd teams; I won't be seeking players for Toronto from 2nd teams for that reason.

At the moment it is a grey area, no reason for anyone to be embittered by it...

Re: Members - Manage 2 Teams

vanimmer 14/11/2015 19:54:04 jreynolds
if you are talking about me i don't mind you calling me out
i pm'ed you several times  and i didn't even know this was a "2nd team" i offered to
I also don't feel it was a rape offer and i'm not gonna copy your first pm here but you definitely weren't either.
i have no problem with you declining either as like you said in your 3rd or 4th pm as a div 5 team that made little sense for you.
My problem is that someone who pretty well knew this was a 2nd team and proclaimed it was a bad thing for the league to trade with 2nd teams then all off a sudden does make a trade with you.

Re: Members - Manage 2 Teams

Pav (Hou) 14/11/2015 19:54:42 Bashev (Ber)
Where did you see that trades with 2nd teams aren't allowed Stefan? No one ever stated that.

We just asked Ben if removing trading ability is an option. As long as trading is available, its completely up to the individual whether he wants to trade with 2nd teams or not. Im not gonna enforce it on other players.

This was a completely even trade between two experienced managers, whats the issue?

What is more damning in my eyes is how managers went after what they perceived to be a newbie and offered him ridiculous deals. Jesse took the one deal that was actually fair.

Re: Members - Manage 2 Teams

jreynolds 14/11/2015 20:00:46 Pav (Hou)
I think we should step back from this... I took a moment to think about my earlier response and decided it was inappropriate.

I think the bottom line is that this is an issue that has to get figured out soon, but for the time being we're going to have to accept that it's going to happen.

Re: Members - Manage 2 Teams

The_Mayor (Liv) 14/11/2015 20:06:38 jreynolds
I agree, Jesse. The blame game will achieve nothing (especially as no one has broken any rules here) and we should focus on figuring what is the best way to move forward from here.

Re: Members - Manage 2 Teams

Mark JS 14/11/2015 20:06:40 Pav (Hou)
That's true, a lot of managers have indicated not to have a problem with removing the trade ability for second teams, but there has been no official statement saying it should be, or will be forbidden.

My 2 cents: it all depends on how you view this second team option.
If the main goal is to give an extra benefit for paying members and give them the option to play with a second team I can understand why it's not forbidden. After all, a team without trading ability is not a complete second team experience.

On the other hand, if the main goal is to have more teams with active managers to drive up activity and have a more challenging experience for both members and non-members then I can understand why it's banned. You don't need to trade to drive up activity and there have been many valid points raised in the discussion above to not trade with second team.

In the end it's Ben's decision and I'm fine with whatever he will pick, but ti would be nice if we could get some sort of statement to avoid discussion as the one above.

Re: Members - Manage 2 Teams

mkeeney2203 14/11/2015 20:52:40 Mark JS
My opinion might me mute as I'm not a member but my worry is this 2nd team lark will get abused by people who have no respect for their peers.

Unless Ben is able to monitor every single trade which I doubt. It would surely be best to remove trading ability or anyones second team.

A side note also. I think it's a bit cheeky if anyone has made any trades already with second team as I personally think it shows a lack of class and respect for he game.  Regardless of what the rules are or aren't.  You all know inside it's wrong to trade between your two teams.

I'll just go crawl back into my corner now.

Good luck finding a solution Ben

Re: Members - Manage 2 Teams

daylami2 (Sal) 14/11/2015 21:34:29 mkeeney2203

There is a temporary block on new managers offering or receiving trades. We apologise for this short term inconvenience, but we want to ensure that new managers have a grasp of the game before they begin trading with other managers. You can start trading in 8 days

thats taken from my 2nd team trading page - wondering why others can already trade

Re: Members - Manage 2 Teams

The_Mayor (Liv) 14/11/2015 22:06:24 daylami2 (Sal)
That's just because Jesse got his 2nd team a bit earlier than others.

Re: Members - Manage 2 Teams

martini (Pal) 14/11/2015 22:53:31 daylami2 (Sal)
imho trading for 2nd teams should blocked for the season whether those trades are balanced or not or whatever.

The 2nd team option for members should add fun for the members and competition for the benefit off all.

It should not upset nonmembers, as it obviously actually does.

Re: Members - Manage 2 Teams

Bashev (Ber) 15/11/2015 13:06:11 martini (Pal)
@Pav I thought that trading with second teams is disabled because Ben wrote "We added functionality to allow an admin to block trading on some IDs in reaction to opening up 2nd teams."

Yo Demus, are you a new manager or a returning vet?

Re: Members - Manage 2 Teams

Demus 04/12/2015 21:16:52 Pav (Hou)

Hi, I am a returning vet, but I couldn't remember my old log in name (I am now quite old).  I once managed Beijing, but then I took over Akita from a guy who was a beast (don't remember his name either), and I managed to run Akita into the ground for him.

I'm amazed how little I remember about how to play the game, it's like it's brand new - but Oz has been helping me a lot (so far I have it sussed - 5 good, 0 bad).

Thanks guys - I'll use my wife's email, she'll love that.  My team is a little team in Turkey D3 so my "second" team will probably be a killer D1 team - I like the look of that Nairobi.

Re: Members - Manage 2 Teams

Minty (Pit) 31/12/2015 14:51:07 Demus
Just a quick question regarding 2nd teams. I manage Sarajevo who have the minimum players in their squad (17). At the end of the season 2 of these players will need their contracts renewing or I release them. However I cannot resign both players as this my cap won't allow it. So it means releasing 1 player and picking up a player worth £2.5 or less. Doesn't really give me a lot of scope.
I realise trading with 2nd teams is not an option. This is not really strengthening this team though, releasing a passable player and having to pick up a rookie or a duff older player who is worse than the player I am gonna be forced to release!
My question is really....what if other teams are worse off than Sarajevo? Trading is a good way to juggle cap as well as to get new players into the squad. Am waffling away here am afraid but I just am confused as what someone can do if they are in a position where they have to release but then this brings them to under the minimum player limit? Thoughts?

Di

Re: Members - Manage 2 Teams

daylami (Dou) 01/01/2016 08:15:23 Minty (Pit)

first step is always to release all players you dont want anymore regardless their contract length.

In case they get picked up from other teams who are under 17 players you´re out of trouble

Doing the juggle you desribed is the last and final option before the minimum enforcement date

Re: Members - Manage 2 Teams

Mark JS 24/05/2016 07:27:16 daylami (Dou)
Recently there's been a couple of cases where a player (on a contract) was released from team 1 and the signed by team 2 from the same manager.
This is not in line with what we discussed as rules for 2nd teams. There is to be no transactions between two teams of the same manager, even if it is through the FA lottery system.
I think we can all easily see how this could be abused. Manager releases unwanted player from team 1, then signs him with team 2 to clear the salary at the first team.

So just putting this on here so it's written down and clear to all. Perhaps Ben could edit it into the first post?
