After the previous season's drama, with sieve-like keepers and a 2nd place finish due to questionable tie-breaker rules, manager Lawrence was taking no prisoners this year. In a blockbuster trade which many considered to be questionable, Ulan Bator sent young generational talent Demidovich to San Juan PR for outstanding Vet keeper Nazareko, Vet center midfield boss Zisis and youth prospect Kolonis.
It's hard to argue with the results, as Ulan Bator went on a tear, completely dominating ROW's top division. With two games left, UB sits 12 points above the rest of the table, and hoists the coveted Regional Cup, managing what few can in one season .. a Regional brace.
The question is, can they pull of a repeat performance next season?
"This squad is special," stated Lawrence, "I'm trying to talk the lads into returning next year for one more run."
And that will be the deciding factor for UB, for sure. If Lawrence can hold on to Zisis and Nazarenko for another season or two and secure another Region Victory, there will be no question his dubious trade choice was actually a masterful stroke bringing the club multiple victories.
